Our story

Spices that taste like home, wherever home is now.

Our founder grew up in Leeds, UK, surrounded by great Indian food. Moving to Switzerland made one thing clear: in many places, the right spices are simply not there. The House of Malabar is the fix.

“You should not have to live in India, or next door to an Indian grocer, to cook proper Indian food.”
The idea behind The House of Malabar
Why we started

Hard to find, far from home

Growing up in Leeds, a proper curry was never more than a short walk away. After moving to Switzerland, our founder found the opposite: kasuri methi, amchur and Kashmiri chilli were a treasure hunt, and one recipe could mean a dozen jars that went stale before they were used again. Talk to expats in Lisbon, Dubai or São Paulo and you hear the same story.

So we built a simple fix: every spice a dish needs, blended in the right proportions, measured for two people, and posted to wherever you live.

What we solve

Three problems, one small packet

Not sold where you live

Kasuri methi, amchur, black salt or Kashmiri chilli can be impossible to find abroad. We send them to your door, already blended.

Twelve jars for one dish

Each packet holds the complete blend for one recipe, so there is nothing else to buy from the spice aisle.

Spices going stale

Measured for one meal for two, so every packet is used fresh, in one go, with nothing left at the back of the cupboard.

The name

Named after the coast where the world’s spice trade began.

For thousands of years, ships crossed oceans to reach the Malabar Coast of Kerala for its pepper, cardamom and cinnamon. The House of Malabar brings that heritage to your kitchen, in authentic spice mixes blended the way Indian families have always made them.
