Our story

Named after the coast where the world’s spice trade began.

For thousands of years, ships crossed oceans to reach the Malabar Coast of Kerala for its pepper, cardamom and cinnamon. The House of Malabar brings that heritage to your kitchen, in authentic spice mixes blended the way Indian families have always made them.

Our founder grew up in Leeds, UK, where a proper curry is never far away. After moving to Switzerland, that changed: the spices for a good dal or biryani became hard to find, and one recipe could mean a dozen jars that went stale in the cupboard. Millions of expats know the feeling, so The House of Malabar was born to fix it, with authentic blends developed with cooks who grew up with these dishes, using whole spices from India, and every recipe tested in a home kitchen until it tastes the way it should.

Questions

Premixed Indian spices: your questions answered

What are premixed Indian spices?

Premixed Indian spices are complete spice blends made for one specific dish. Instead of buying a dozen jars, you get every spice a recipe needs, already measured and mixed, so you can cook an authentic curry, biryani or street food snack at home.

How many people does one packet serve?

Each packet is portioned for one recipe for two people. Cooking for four or six? Simply use two or three packets.

Is there a recipe for each spice mix?

Yes. Every spice mix has its full recipe online, on its own product page and in our Recipes section, with the fresh ingredients to add and a simple step by step method.

Which spice mix should I start with?

If you prefer mild flavours, start with butter chicken, korma or tikka masala. For more heat, try jalfrezi, madras or vindaloo. Use the filters above to browse by heat or vegetarian dishes.

Do you ship worldwide?

Yes. We ship our Indian spice mixes worldwide with tracked delivery, including Europe, the UK, North and South America, Australia and Asia.

How should I store the spice mixes?

Keep the packets in a cool, dry cupboard away from sunlight. Ground spices taste best when fresh, so we recommend using them within a few months. Each packet is made for one recipe, so use it all in one go.
